One of the things I love about my job is the semi-relaxed dress code. It’s a big change from my last place of employment, which required that we dress up everyday. Even on Fridays.
While I usually put forth some effort into what I’m wearing, I just didn’t have it in me today. I pulled out a plain yellow t-shirt and some jeans and called it a day.
But since “doing the most” is my middle name, I couldn’t just leave it there. I had to make it my own. Here’s how I elevated a basic outfit in two easy steps:
Since cutting my hair, I’ve had fun wearing all types of earrings. These simple wood ovals are cute and a step above my usual cubic zirconia studs.
The necklace is one of my favorites that I hardly wear. I’m always saving it for a special occasion or a special outfit. But why can’t I wear it on a regular day with a $7 t-shirt from Target and a $7.50 pair of jeans from my favorite consignment shop? My mother-in-love used to say that if she ever bought a (faux) fur coat, she would wear it to the grocery store. LOL!
2. Add a cute pair of shoes
Instead of tennis shoes, (I’ve built up quite a collection of cute tennis shoes in the last few months) I decided to wear sandals. These are a recent purchase from the clearance rack at DSW. What you can’t see is that the insole is cushioned, which makes them super comfortable.
- Add a half tuck to your shirt (tuck the very front of your shirt into your jeans)
- Cuff your jeans
These are just a couple of extra details that make it even more your own.
What other ways can you take a this basic outfit to the next level?
