Things may look a bit different now, but I’m still pursuing life on purpose with confidence and style. Here are my current pursuits:

What I’m Reading: The Athlete-Student: Freshman Year by Eugene Holloman The Athlete-Student: Freshman Year book cover

I met Eugene Holloman at a Virginia Sports Hall of Fame/Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters youth athlete mental health panel a few weeks ago. Eugene shared the pain he went through and the process of rediscovering his purpose after suffering a career-ending knee injury in his senior year as a running back on the James Madison University football team. His story of resilience and fighting through the darkness is remarkable.

As a former JMU Duke, I definitely wanted to meet him after the event and support his work. My sister, Patrice (also a former Duke), and I had a great conversation with him, and we bought both of his books. As it turned out, I already had his book on my Amazon wish list, although I couldn’t remember where I heard about it. If you have young student athletes in your life, this book is for them. It’s a pretty quick read and provides perspective on what student athletes go through.

What I’m Watching: Give me all the Netflix shows and movies!
So far, I’ve watched Love is Blind, The Stranger, Uncorked and Greater. I highly recommend them all! Also, I just finished catching up on All American (I fell behind this season).

Since I have a little time on my hands, I created a Quarantine & Chill page in my planner of all of the shows and movies I want to see. What else should I add to my list?

Quarantine and Chill List

What I’m Eating: What am I not eating?
Y’all, I’m trying really hard not to eat all the things. The quarantine struggle is real! Some days are better than others. In the end, I’m just trying to find the balance between eating healthy and eating junk food. I’m also drinking plenty of water. That’s the best I’ve got for now. LOL

What I’m Loving: My (almost) daily walks
My new favorite thing to do is get outside for some fresh air and exercise. Most days I walk, but I’ve also biked as well. And this weekend I tried my first online fitness class. The goal is to move every day.

Bonus: I’m also loving my new manicure. I’m so proud of myself for figuring out how to remove my dipped powder and do my own nails. (We’re learning how to do all sorts of things for ourselves in this new normal, right?!) One of my besties convinced me to step outside of my comfort zone and try this color. I love how it turned out.

What I’m Wearing: Real Clothes

One of the first things I learned when I worked from home several years ago, is that it’s important to get dressed every day. Even though I’m not working right now, I still get dressed and try to keep some sort of morning routine each day. I’m not saying you have to put on your Sunday best, but you should put on real clothes versus wearing pajamas all day. It’s remarkable how much more productive you feel when you get dressed.

I’m thinking about putting together a fun video with a few work-from-home looks. What would you like to see?

What I’m Dreading: Two more months (at least) of quarantine
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our governor has issued a stay at home order until June 10. It’s not like I go a lot of places, but it’s just something about not having the option of going anywhere. I’ve seen so many hilarious memes and videos of what it will be like when this quarantine is finally lifted. Y’all, we’re going to be so extra! LOL

What I’m Looking Forward To: The Future
In my previous post, I shared that I was recently laid off. However, I have so much hope and excitement for the future. I know it won’t be easy, but I’m not worried because I know who holds my future. In the words of Kirk Franklin’s song Road Trip:

Pack a smile, cause this road won’t be easy
Doubt will come, believe me
Sometimes you’ll wonder if it’s alright
Hold on tight, it’s about to be amazing
When you see what God is making
I can’t wait for you to tell me that it’s alright

What are your current pursuits? How are you staying positive during this COVID-19 quarantine?
